Lexicon has extensive experience with designing and establishing pre-oil/gas drilling development water quality baseline assessments for private and public water supplies and surface water bodies, including springs, streams and lakes. However, we also have extensive experience evaluating for post-development impacts. The above block diagram illustrates the subsurface geology of an area that underwent natural gas development and resulted in groundwater quality impairment of several households utilizing private potable wells. Lexicon's key personnel served as an expert in subsequent litigation and also authored follow-up research on the matter in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
In addition to understanding O&G identification, extraction and production (upstream), Lexicon also can assist with environmental issues arising from transport/storage processes (midstream). As an example, Lexicon staff assisted with a pipeline release and its subsequent remediation, ensuring that a nearby wetland and lake where not adversely affected. Notably, in addition to private and public water supply purveyors, we can assist various organizations, including lake associations mitigate risk associated with nearby O&G development and mitigation, when releases do occur.
